DAWN is proud to announce that we received a grant from the Diverse City Fund to support “Work-Pod”. In collaboration with Creando Lazos, a volunteer-based social service organization bridging language and cultural together for access for minority communities, and Create Your History, a program that provides homeless LGBTQ+ Youth of Color skills, experience, and the confidence needed to find living-wage jobs through image and job attainment consulting.
“Work-Pod” strives to create paths of opportunities and agency for Deaf Survivors of Violence (DoSoV) through job attainment skills. “Work-Pod” recognizes that increasing economic stability and success reduces vulnerability to violence, and that violence has a very real economic cost, particularly for minority language users -- such as the Deaf community. Understanding the multiple identities and linguistic abilities that each survivor carries is critical to developing programs and trainings that are inclusive and equitable.
