“You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give.” —Author unknown

DAWN volunteers are amazing and perform extraordinary work. All it takes is your passion to work towards a healthy and safe community.

At DAWN we recognize and value the importance of volunteers. Many of our key services depend upon dedicated volunteers. That’s why we provide thorough training, continuous learning opportunities, and support to volunteers so that they feel confident in their work and make a difference in our community.

If you're interested in volunteering your time with DAWN, please contact info@deafdawn.org.

DAWN Advocate

Advocates often serve as the first hope for survivors, offering support during sexual assault forensic exams or a compassionate presence in court or the referral agencies. DAWN’s daily operations also require support from volunteers in areas that involve limited client interaction, such as staffing booths in the community, assisting at our outreach events, providing workshops for survivors, and many more.

Youth Solidarity Supporter

Youth solidarity supporters will co-create a space for youth engagement to discuss and address various harmful actions within our youth circle and home. Youth will develop and utilize various skills to maintain anti-oppressive and non-violence relational connections within their community(ies). Ultimately, to value and embrace safety, honor boundaries, and understand the importance of effective consent.

DAWN Surviving Pets Advocate

Advocates will provide support for the survivors and their pets by providing transitional support. What does transitional support look like: picking pets up and transporting them to a safe home, picking up medical supplies or food for pets, or pet-sit during a specific time agreed between the survivor and Pet advocate. Pet advocates will have the opportunity to host outreach and education about pets and surviving an abusive home. Sometimes survivors want someone to give loving attention to their pets.

DAWN Circle Volunteer

The mission of the DAWN Circle is to provide activities that enhance the lives of those we serve, support the DAWN holiday programs, food drive, development efforts (fundraising), and events, and increase community awareness of DAWN and its work. We’d love to have you join us! This opportunity is for people who want to volunteer, at most, once or twice per month, and does not require going through the DAWN Volunteer Orientation.

DAWN Media Volunteer

The media volunteer supports the DAWN’s vision through community relations and education. This is done by uploading DAWN’s materials on SM and Website, making sure transcription and captions are present. Media volunteers will also work with Board’s developmental committee as well as the fundraising committee by sharing fundraising efforts to support DAWN’s services.

DAWN Fundraising Volunteer

The Fundraising volunteer will assist the board developmental committee with their fundraising efforts to increase awareness and strengthen our relationship with the community.
