About Us
We are a
trauma-informed,
culturally responsive, and
transformative justice-based
agency.
DAWN is a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and transformative justice-based agency that provides multi-facted services to the survivors and the community. We provide direct services and education addressing power-based violence.
DAWN’s mission is to promote healthy relationships and reduce abuse in the Deaf community in the Washington, DC area. We emphasize that all forms of violence are intersectional. Working with survivors who have many identities we recognize that individuals and society decrease the right to one’s own safety and autonomy.
We at DAWN, remind ourselves of the importance of being intentional with our work to ensure that we do not reinforce oppression especially by discounting any of the intersectional identities of Deaf Survivors.
DAWN recognizes and believes in our commitment to promote healthy relationships and reduce violence in the Deaf community by recognizing the power, control, and violence caused by all forms of oppression which cause violence to Deaf people of all identities. With this mission, survivors can live their lives in the true meaning of dignity and self-worth.
